The Making of the Next Record

Hey Everyone!

Happy Summer!

Long time, no see!

I wanted to take a couple of minutes today to provide you with an update about all Michael Lawson music happenings since the release of Side 2.  Needless to say, it's been busy.

Right after I finished recording Side 2, I started work on the next one, figuring that if anyone from the world of record labels or publishing companies liked what they heard (if they ever heard it), they'd want to hear more.

So, I wrote a fair amount of songs in the Fall of 2020, using the Druid City Brewing Company Open Mic to test drive many of them (Thanks to Jacob and Bo for that!).

In January of 2021, I returned to FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals to track five songs with all the Original Dream makers: Spencer Coats (Engineer and Spiritual Leader), Will McFarlane (Guitars), Jimbo Hart (Bass), Justin Holder (Thunder Machine), and Brad Kuhn (keys).  That session turned out to be pretty special.

In February, I returned to FAME to track the vocals--a weekend jam that included the return of McFarlane, Holder, and Kuhn to the mic to help me track the backgrounds to a song called "Heaven with Me" that I think is going to be a standout.  Oh yeah, the mighty Wes Sheffield helped out with engineering that session since Annie Wilson was in Studio A recording her forthcoming solo record.

Then, in March, I decided to try to take advantage of Jimbo Hart still being around before hitting the road once again with Jason Isbell and the rest of the 400 Unit.  So, I wrote a few more tunes and returned to FAME in May to record three more tracks--"This is My Life", "Giving In" and "Sweet Carolina."  Like the other sessions, this one was also dynamic and the performances of the band were nothing short of remarkable.

In the end, I have now tracked a short LP of 8 tunes--all of which were recorded in a grand total of 5 days.

As I have noted on the social media pages, I think this one is going to be really special. I know that all musicians think  and say that when they are ready to release a record--but this one really feels special.

So, I can't wait for you to hear it. The plan, as of right now, is to release a song every 1 or 2 months starting later in the Fall, meaning that the full length record will be released sometime in 2022.  In the meantime, download a copy of Side 2 so I can have enough money to mix this thing!!!

Thanks for all of your support, folks. It means the world to me.

I'll be back soon with some backgrounds about each song and its production. And if you haven't already--join the mailing list!
